Our founding moment

India’s national anthem was born on foreign soil — in Hamburg.

On 11 September 1942, at the founding ceremony of the Deutsch-Indische Gesellschaft in the Hotel Atlantic, Rabindranath Tagore’s “Jana Gana Mana” was performed publicly for the first time.
